Lewis and Clark made many maps of the area, recording the different lands and animals they saw. Draw what you think they might have seen as they crossed rivers, lakes, and mountains. Did you know?President Thomas Jefferson chose Meriwether Lewis, Jefferson's secretary to head an expedition across the Louisiana Purchase. Meriwether asked his friend William Clark to go with him. On May 14, 1804, they began their two year journey across the United States. By the time they reached what is North Dakota today, they added a translator and his wife, Sacagawea, onto the crew. The journey ahead was over the rough Rocky Mountains. They finally saw the Pacific Ocean in late November of 1806.
