1.
Ask families to find small, safe things to recycle such as ribbons, buttons, or out-of-fashion earrings, and recycled boxes. Give a lunch bag to each family.
2.
Encourage children to collect interesting items by preparing these boxes first.
3.
Children gradually can sort with more categories. Encourage them to stretch their thinking as they sort. Ask them to explain their choices.
4.
Cover your work area with recycled newspaper. Put on a Crayola® Art Smock. With Crayola® So Big® Brushes, paint a box inside and out. This box is to hold the recycled treasures from home. Dry overnight.
5.
Empty your lunch bag of recycled items into your sorting box.
6.
Use a muffin tin to sort the items in your box. Can you sort by size? Color? Texture? Shape? Try several different ways.
