On April 28, 1758, James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States, was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia. During his term in office from 1817 to 1825, the first public high school was opened. He was the last of three presidents to die on July 4, America's Independence Day. He died in New York, New York in 1831.
