John "The Chief" Diefenbaker was born in Grey County, Ontario, on September 18, 1895. He became a Parliament member in 1940, a Conservative leader in 1956, and was elected prime minister in 1957. He introduced the Bill of Rights, and created federal agencies to aid western and atlantic provinces.
