Ring Around the Shape lesson plan

  • 1.

    Children make this game to suit their imaginations and skill levels—colors, letters, or numbers.

  • 3.

    Regularly engage children in visual literacy activities: discuss art, find shapes, write experience charts, play with blocks, solve puzzles, and draw or paint.

  • 4.

    To make a die: Shape white Crayola® Model Magic® into a 3-inch square. Dry 24 hours.

  • 5.

    With Crayola® Washable Markers, draw two triangles, two circles, and two squares on the six sides of the die. Use a different color for each shape.

  • 6.

    To make a playing board: Choose 3 sheets of construction paper in the same colors as the shapes on the die. With Crayola® Write Start® Colored Pencils, draw four of each of the shapes on the matching color of paper. Use Crayola® Scissors to cut out the sh

    Attach the shapes in random order to a large piece of poster board with Crayola® Glue Sticks.

  • 8.

    To make the rings: Cut recycled plastic 6-pack holders from soda cans into rings.

  • 9.

    To play: Roll the die. Put a ring around the shape that shows on the die. Fill the board with rings.
