Around Avonlea’s Green Gables

Create an Avonlea landscape that takes your breath away! Experience the beauty that L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables describes on Prince Edward Island, Canada.

• 1.

  While you read Anne of Green Gables, look at pictures of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Ask someone who has seen this beautiful island to tell your class about it.

• 2.

  Use your Crayola® Erasable Colored Pencils to list and sketch the island’s geographical features. You’ll find red soil, blossoming trees, sandy shores, and brilliant blue sky and sea all described in the book. If you need to correct a spelling, just erase!

• 3.

  Cover your art area with newspaper. On heavy white paper, use Crayola Washable Paints and Brushes to recreate your landscape. Air-dry the paint.

• 4.

  Bunch up bits of tissue paper. Glue them to your painting to represent foliage and other textured features. You could even add Green Gables! Look at images of PEI that your classmates created. How are they similar? Different?
