Shape Concentration

Shape Concentration lesson plan

  • 1.

Concentration games help children focus on details and use their memory. This one builds math concepts, too.

  • 2.

Provide samples of shapes for children to look at as they draw. Suggest that children trace around objects or use a stencil if they need assistance.

  • 4.

To make the cards: On six white index cards, use a Crayola® Washable Marker to draw a circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, and hexagon. Make six more cards with exactly the same shapes. If you like, color the inside of each shape.

  • 5.

To play Shape Concentration: Play with two or three friends. Mix the cards. Place them face down in rows.

  • 6.

Each player in turn chooses two cards. Name the two shapes. If the cards have matching shapes, keep the cards and take another turn. If the shapes are different, turn the cards face down for the next player's turn.

  • 7.

The game starts again when all cards are matched.
