Sandy Sounds lesson plan

  • 1.

    If a sand table or box is not available, make one by lining a box with a trash bag, or use a plastic tub. Put another trash bag underneath. Fill with clean, fine sand.

  • 2.

    On 52 large index cards, write large upper- and lower-case letters as samples.

  • 3.

    Talk with children to assure they learn the names of the letters and hear their sounds.

  • 4.

    Choose a letter on a card. Trace its shape with your finger.

  • 5.

    Draw the same letter in sand.

  • 6.

    Write the letter on an index card with a Crayola® Washable Marker.

  • 7.

    Cover the letter with Crayola® School Glue.

  • 8.

    Put the card in the sand box and sprinkle sand on the glue. Dry overnight.
