Phone Booth & Books

Phone Booth & Books lesson plan

  • 1.

Help cut off the top flaps of a large cardboard box. Provide examples of words and numerals as needed. Use pretend phone numbers for those that are confidential.

  • 2.

Talk about, demonstrate, and practice good phone manners: How to answer the phone, take messages, handle wrong numbers and emergencies.

  • 3.

Use a utility knife to cut the box as children request. Store the knife in a safe place when you are finished.

  • 4.

To make a phone booth: Cut off the top flaps of a large cardboard box with Crayola® Scissors, or ask an adult to use a utility knife.

  • 5.

With Crayola® Washable Markers, print Phone Booth on the box. Set the phone booth on a low table with a chair. Put a phone inside it (make your own if you wish).

  • 6.

To make phone books: On construction paper, use Crayola® Construction Paper™ Crayons to draw pictures of people to call (grandparent, neighbor, friend). Write their phone numbers.

  • 7.

For the cover, write Phone Book, your name, and your phone number on a file folder. Illustrate the front and back covers with crayons.
