Three Bags Full lesson plan

  • 1.

    Ask families to find dress-up clothes and accessories, such as hard hats, briefcases, and boots.

  • 2.

    A few children can do this project each day, so everyone has a chance to be a character AND a portrait painter.

  • 3.

    Encourage friendships as children help each other dress and paint each other's portraits.

  • 4.

    With Crayola® Washable Markers, number three paper grocery bags 1, 2,

  • 6.

    Sort dress-up clothes into the bags this way: #1: jackets, skirts, capes, sweaters, and vests; #2: shoes, boots, and slippers; #3: accessories, such as jewelry, purses, and hats.

  • 7.

    Choose one item from each bag. Dress up in your clothes. Choose a character and a name. Write your character's name on easel paper with a marker.

  • 8.

    Ask a friend to paint your portrait at the easel. Help your friend put on a Crayola® Art Smock.

  • 9.

    Stand (or sit) very still while your friend paints your portrait with Crayola® Washable Kid's Paint and Brushes. Dry the painting overnight.

  • 10.

    Together, tell a story about the character in the painting.
