Read stories and talk with children about shapes all around them, such as round plates, rectangular books, and triangle blocks.

Choose the complexity of shapes, depending on children's knowledge: circle, square, triangle, oval, rectangle, and hexagon. Closely supervise children who find small shapes for rubbings.

Encourage literacy and math understandings by talking about and writing new vocabulary words for shapes.

Remove the paper wrappings from several Crayola® Crayons.
5.
Find flat shapes such as puzzle or game pieces, buttons, or parquetry blocks. Lay construction paper over the top of a shape.
6.
Make a crayon rubbing of the shape with the side of a crayon.
7.
Write the name of the shape and your name below the rubbing.
