Shape Parade

Shape Parade lesson plan

  • 1.

Children learn best with plenty of hands-on opportunities to use shapes: unit blocks, puzzles, foods, parquetry blocks.

  • 2.

Start Shape Parade with a few shapes.

  • 3.

For children younger than 3, cut out their shapes to ensure safety and use plain shapes.

  • 4.

To make shapes: On construction paper, draw a big shape with Crayola® Washable Markers. Use a ruler to draw straight lines.

  • 5.

If you are 4 years old or older, cut out the shape with Crayola® Scissors. If you are younger, ask an adult to cut. Draw designs and borders with markers.

  • 6.

Place a small piece of double-stick tape on the back of your shape. With your friends, stick your shapes on the floor.

  • 7.

To play: A leader starts recorded music. Walk around the room, stepping on different shapes. When the music stops, the leader asks a child to name the shape. That child becomes the next leader.
