Playful Puppets lesson plan

  • 1.

Collect collage materials. Ask parents to save recyclable items such as foam produce trays, fabric scraps, boxes, gift-wrap, and yarn.

  • 2.

Read or tell stories that have memorable characters.

  • 3.

Talk about art elements (line, shape, form, color, texture).

  • 4.

Choose a favorite story character, or imagine one. Make a puppet using a foam produce tray. Cut yarn, fabric, or paper with Crayola® Scissors.

  • 5.

Use Crayola® School Glue to attach pieces. For a handle, glue a craft stick to the bottom of your puppet.

  • 6.

Add your name and the puppet's features with Crayola® Multicultural Markers or Washable Markers. Make your character sparkle with Crayola® Glitter Glue.
