Find the Color

Find the Color lesson plan

  • 1.

With infants and toddlers, talk about colors naturally during daily routines. Those green peas must be yummy. Here's your purple sock.

  • 2.

With older preschoolers, for whom this activity is intended, help them notice that color names are written on Crayola® markers and crayons. Where else can they find color names in print?

  • 4.

Choose your favorite colors of Crayola® Washable Markers.

  • 5.

Measure recycled file folders or poster board in rectangles, about 3 by 6 inches. Mark lines with Crayola® Colored Pencils. Make one rectangle for each marker. Cut with Crayola® Scissors.

  • 6.

Find color names on the markers. Write one color name on each paper rectangle, using the marker of that color. Put your name on the back of the card.

  • 7.

Match your color words with the colors of things you see indoors and outside.
