Can You Match This Shape?

1.

This one-on-one activity helps children develop eye-hand coordination and learn about shapes. Make it fun and a time to get to know each child while assessing skill levels.

Introduce the activity: ;Watch me draw this (name of shape) on the paper. Draw the shape on the top of the paper, describing how you move the crayon. For a circle: ;I start at the top and curve gently around the left side, down to the bottom, up the right

Depending on the child's skills and interest, offer the opportunity to repeat the same shape, or to do two or three others. Mark children's names and date, and file in each child's portfolio. Track progress every 2 or 3 months.

Watch a grownup make a shape with a Crayola® Washable Crayon. Listen carefully to how it's made.
5.

With your finger, trace around the shape. Feel the waxy crayon. Do it several times, until you're sure.
6.

When you're ready, draw the same shape with a crayon. Draw it again if you like.
7.

Decorate your shapes with Crayola® Glitter Glue.
