Calendar Cut-Ups lesson plan

  • 1.

    Develop understanding of seasonal characteristics. Read books, observe seasonal changes in plants and animals, explore seasons in depth. Play Vivaldi’s ;The Four Seasons; as children make their Calendar Cut-Ups.

  • 2.

    Recycled calendars are great resources for seasonal pictures as well as for art depicting geography, diversity, family events, and animals. Children 3 and younger tear out pictures, while older children use scissors if they wish. Close adult supervision i

  • 3.

    Consider seasons children could research: seasons in your area, those where friends or grandparents live, or where children have vacationed, for example.

  • 4.

    Look through recycled calendars. Find a large picture of each season. If you are 4 or older, cut them out with Crayola® Scissors. Tear out the pictures if you are 3 or younger.

  • 5.

    With a Crayola® Glue Stick, attach each picture to the outside of a file folder.

  • 6.

    Search through magazines, catalogs, and other picture sources to find more seasonal scenes. Cut (4 or older) or tear (3 or younger) the scenes out.

  • 7.

    Exchange pictures with your friends if you like. Sort the pictures into the seasonal file folders. Talk with each other about your selections.
